About the Course

This MOOC presents the services and the architecture of 5G networks, the main principles of the new radio interface (NR), data flow management, security and the new Service-Based Architecture (SBA). In recent years, operators have been deploying 5G technology on commercial mobile networks. The latter is announced as a major technological breakthrough with speeds beyond Gbit/s, very low latencies and above all a distribution in many sectors of activity (industry, transport, medicine, etc.). Beyond the announcement effects, this technology relies heavily on 4G. The waveform for radio transmission is identical, the management of data flows is similar. However, 5G significantly extends the possible options both in the choice of architectures and in the radio interface configurations as well as in the security mechanisms. All this is explained in the mooc. A certificate of successful completion is awarded by Coursera to learners who succeed in obtaining a mark greater than 50%. This MOOC has received financial support from the Patrick & Lina Drahi Foundation....

I had a burning desire to take solid and detailed training in 5G technology, which is why I followed the 5G Network Basics course with great interest. In fact, by reviewing many online training courses -including courses offered by international companies- I found this course the best one, whether in terms of scientific content or method of explanation and presentation. That is why I did my best to complete all the modules and enjoy them, in order to complete this course and move on to the rest of the courses offered by Institut Mines-Télécom within the field of communications engineering.

The course is very technical and complete I feel that the radio interface would need more time to be described. That time can be taken from the security sections which are in some cases repetitive.

In some of the QUIZ sections you either respond ALL questions right or you do not pass them. So effectively ,although it is mentioned that you pass with 75%, in many cases it is not possible and you need to get the 100.

All in all is a great course and I recommend it for 5G professionals. Thank you.

Ps. Got used to the French accent in English!! Great fun.

This is a challenging and informative course that provides an excellent beginner to intermediate introduction to 5GNR RAN and Core. I would suggest that most people will need to do additional research, reading and learning outside of the course material in order to be able to answer all of the quiz and assessment questions. That said, the downloadable course PDF provided is a valuable resource.

In my opinion this is a great course for beginning in 5G, however, the questions from homeworks and final exam, are a lot harder than expected, and I think these should go easier than that.

The instructor is very disengaging and very boring to listen to. He's also struggling with English. In addition, the course content is mainly focusing on core network and totally ignoring RAN which is unaccepted as 5G RAN is a very important topic and can't be ignored.
