This course, we're going to talk really about consulting work, consulting project teams, and how you do great on a case interview. First thing I'd say is consulting is teamwork, and so part of a case interview and recruiting for consulting is to demonstrate that. Are you the kind of person who works well on a team? Are you good at listening? Can you pick up on clues? Can you explain yourself in a very logical, conversational way? Do you have business acumen and have gravitas where the consulting firm would be happy to put you in front of a client who maybe has 20 years more experience than you do. It's a tall order and that's why getting a consulting job is quite difficult. They tend to be very picky, and like it says here in the title, the case interview is really testing your ability to do those kind of things. Four icons to give you a glimpse of what this course is about. One, what is consulting leverage? How is it that consulting firms put together teams so that everybody can get the most done? Why are teams made like that? Also, here on the right-hand side, you see the pyramid consulting staffing, there's at the top of the pyramid, more senior partners and principals, and at the bottom, analysts, consultants and senior consultants. At the top, very senior people, lots of experience. At the bottom, people newer in their career. Why is that important? When do you need to have a more senior person? When is it alright to have a more junior person who's learning on the job? On the left-hand side, networking, shaking hands. This is a very networking business. For those of you who are interested in getting into consulting, we're going to talk about how do you do an informational interview, how do you reach out to somebody that you don't know, how do you create a good impression, how is it that you set yourself up to eventually getting an invitation to do a case interview? Finally, basically two big types of interview formats. One is behavioral interview where they ask you questions about your resume, tell me about yourself, those questions. Then a case interview, which is very different, very specific to consulting, where they give you a situation, very ambiguous, and it's your job to interview this person, asking questions, figuring out what are the main drivers of this problem, and then within just like 20,25 minutes or so, coming up with a list of pretty plausible useful recommendations that they might accept. It's a lot of stuff to cover. Very useful if you're interested in getting a consulting job. The final thing I would say is in addition to all the skills and the tips and the tools, there's a lot of websites out there which teach you how to do well on a case energy, this is not that course. This course really is trying to teach you, like it says here at the bottom, if you were a consulting partner and you were in a position of hiring other people, what is it that you would be looking for? Once we figure out what they're looking for, the question is, how can we be that kind of person?
