[music] Hello, Coursera. Charmaine Williams here from the University of Toronto. And we are here for Week Four of the Social Context of Mental Health and Illness. Can you believe we have made it past the halfway point? I hope you guys are enjoying it as much as I am. This week, we're going to be talking about the relationship between culture, mental health, and mental illness. And I know I don't need to talk to you guys about how those things are important and connected because you've all been talking about connection between culture and mental health and mental illness from the very beginning of the course. I've seen in the forum that people are talking about how mental illness is dealt with in different cultural contexts, how, what the attitudes are like, how people respond differently. And so, this has already been part of your discussion. And today, I join that discussion, and look forward to seeing where we take it in the week as it progresses. So really looking forward to that. Some of the things that we'll be touching on are issues like how is mental health different, dealt with differently in different culture, cultural context. How do we deal with it in multicultural context how are, how do people think differently about mental health depending on their cultural backgrounds. And then, how does that all come together in terms of us thinking about how we, as a global environment, deal with mental health issues. So yeah. I think that should be a good discussion. So, a few housekeeping items before we get into the course. The first thing is, I'm sure that those of you that are in the discussion forums know that I'm in there once in a while, too. I really enjoy checking in on the discussion forums. And I wanted to make sure that people know that if they have technical issues with the course, they should really post those in the technical feedback forums. Because there are so many posts, it's really hard for us to search around to find that stuff. So hopefully, there's a lot less of this going on. But if you are having any problems, please put it in technical feedback so we can find it and help you out with it. Second thing is, you should be noticing that on the Announcement's page, there is a section in the upper right hand corner where you will see deadlines for upcoming assignments. You should have a couple up there now. Please pay attention to what those times mean in your time zone. If you haven't already done so, consider changing the settings so that all the times in the course are in your time zone. There is not going to be an extension on this assignment, and there's not going to be any kind of extra credit quiz to make up for it. I think that, you know, with that first assignment when we were all learning how to do things it made sense to do that. And also, I wanted to have something for people who would join the course late, too. But from now on, I'm going to assume that are all experienced Courserians [laugh] and we know how to pay attention to the time zones. So, I will look forward to seeing your assignments coming in somewhere around the 19th or 20th depending on where you are, right? And then, the final issue final thing I wanted to mention is, as before, I wanted to say how much I appreciate how people are conducting themselves in the forums, and especially in the discussion forums. I really find people are very encouraging, very helpful, very supportive. And that's a lot of what makes this course fun for me to do. And I just also wanted to say that I do appreciate your kind words as well. I put these things down on videotape and put them out there and hope everything's going to be okay. But it's very strange not having any feedback from a class of people in front of me. So, it's lovely that people have taken the time to give me a bit of feedback, and I thank you for that. So with that, we're going to get into the course. I'm going to warn you that I have a cold. [laugh] I've been putting off doing these recordings because I was hoping I'd get better, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. So, you may hear the occasional sniff. I will try to edit out the sneezes and I hope that you will bear with me. So, onto culture, mental health and mental illness.
